Columna: Order Export & Sheets Live

Export Shopify orders with engraving, gift messages and upload links in columns

Each line-item property gets its own column, so the text for the engraver, the gift note and the customer's upload link sit next to the SKU. CSV or XLSX, built in your browser.

Who Columna is for

Columna: Order Export & Sheets exports Shopify orders to CSV or XLSX with line-item properties (engraving, gift messages, upload links) in their own columns, processed in the browser. It is for shops that hand orders to production, fulfilment or accounting and need the property data in the file, not on the order page.

If your job is a different one, such as importing or bulk-editing store data, a broader import and export tool is the better fit. See when to pick another tool.

What to compare before you pick an order export app

These are the questions that decide whether a file reaches your engraver or bookkeeper ready to use, with Columna's answer to each.

What Columna: Order Export & Sheets does for each question
QuestionColumna: Order Export & Sheets
Do line-item properties get their own columns?Yes. One column per property key, named Property: <key>, from the keys used in your last 250 orders. Or one Properties column with all pairs together.
Is there a template for personalised items?Yes. Line items with properties is ready when you install. Save your own templates, such as an engraving sheet, and reuse them.
Which file formats?CSV or XLSX.
Where is the file built? In your browser.
Can you export by filter?Yes, by payment status, fulfillment status, date range and tags. Exports without limits.
Does it sync to Google Sheets?Yes. How many syncs depends on the plan, see Pricing.
Does it import or edit store data? No. Orders, products and customers are only read, apart from an optional tag on exported orders.

This table answers for Columna only. Other order export apps describe their own features on their Shopify App Store listings; ask each listing the same questions, or see seven of them side by side in the best Shopify order export apps, compared.

When to pick another tool

Knowing the limits up front saves you an install.

  • You need to import or bulk-edit data

Columna only reads your store, apart from the optional tag on exported orders. It does not import products, customers or orders, and it does not change them.

  • You need PDFs

Exports are CSV or XLSX files. For invoices or packing slips as PDFs, use a document app.

  • You only need the native export as a sheet

Shopify's own orders CSV has no line-item properties, but if its columns are enough, the Shopify order CSV to Excel converter turns it into an .xlsx with the order details on every row, in your browser.

One engraving order, as the file shows it

An order with two personalised items and one plain one. Each item is a row; each property key is a column.

How do I export line item properties from Shopify orders?

The standard order CSV has no column for line-item properties. In Columna: Order Export & Sheets, the app finds the property keys used in your last 250 orders and offers a column for each one, named Property: <key>. Tick the ones you need, filter the orders and download a CSV or XLSX file.

Why do my orders split across several rows?

In the standard order CSV, an order with several items gets one row per line item, and many order fields are left blank on the extra rows to show they belong to the same order. In Columna you build the export from a template: you choose the columns, including one per property key, so each item row carries its own engraving text or upload link next to its SKU.

Which file formats does Columna export?

CSV or XLSX. The file is built in your browser.

Can Columna import or edit orders?

No. Products, customers and orders are only read, apart from an optional tag on the orders you exported.

Can I keep all properties in one column instead?

Yes. The Properties column keeps every key and value of an item together in one cell.
