Can You Run Multiple Shopify Stores Under One Account?
Yes, one Shopify login can reach many stores, but plans, billing and staff stay per store. How organizations, the store switcher and Shopify Plus work in 2026.
In this guide
Short answer: yes, one Shopify login can open several stores, and you can group stores you own into one organization. What one account does not give you is one plan, one bill or one admin for all of them. Below Shopify Plus, each store keeps its own plan and its own bill, and every store is still worked on one at a time.
This guide explains what is shared, what is not, and what changes on Shopify Plus, using Shopify’s current help pages as of October 2026.
One login, many stores
Your Shopify account connects all the stores and organizations associated with it, including stores where someone else gave you a user account (Shopify Help Center).
To move between stores, you use the store switcher in the Shopify admin. A few details matter in practice (Shopify Help Center):
- The switcher finds stores by your email address. If a store is missing, check that your account on that store uses the same email as the others.
- Your most recently used stores appear first; View all lets you search the full list.
- Frozen, paused or closed stores don’t appear. Reactivating a store adds it back.
- In the Shopify mobile app, you add stores to your store list first, then switch between them.
So for a merchant with three stores, signing in once and switching is normal. The switcher changes which store you are looking at; it does not combine them.
Organizations: grouping stores you own
An organization lets you view and manage several stores together, including users and billing (Shopify Help Center). How you get one depends on your plan.
Below Shopify Plus: store grouping
If your stores are not on Plus, you can group them into an organization (Shopify Help Center). The rules:
- You need at least two stores, and you must be the store owner of each one.
- All stores in the organization must have the same billing currency, which can’t be changed after the organization is set up.
- Stores with INR billing currency can’t be grouped.
- Only the organization owner can create the organization and group stores.
- Shopify states there is no specific limit on the number of non-Plus stores you can group.
Grouping changes some access, so plan for it:
- Staff keep their store permissions, but their organization permissions are removed. Users who managed users or billing may lose that, so review staff access after grouping.
- Finance permissions for viewing billing and paying invoices move to organization-level Billing permissions, held by the organization owner and staff with the Organization administrator role.
- Recurring app charges stay with the store, not the organization, so they keep billing unless you cancel them.
You can also create a new store from inside the organization at Settings > Organization > Create store, then pick a plan or decide later (Shopify Help Center).
On Shopify Plus: expansion stores
Plus stores don’t use store grouping; they manage multiple stores as expansion stores. A Plus organization can have up to ten stores on its contract at no additional contract cost: one main store and nine expansion stores (Shopify Help Center). Expansion stores must be extensions of the main brand. A separate brand may need its own Plus subscription under a multi-brand agreement.
Plans and billing: still one per store
This is the part most people ask about. Grouping stores does not put them on one plan.
| Below Plus (grouped organization) | Shopify Plus organization | |
|---|---|---|
| Plan | Each store has its own plan | Up to 10 stores on one contract |
| Bills | Each store billed and invoiced separately | One billing account and invoice for all stores |
| Apps | Billed per store | Billed per store |
| Theme licenses | Per store | Per store |
| Billing currency | Must match across stores | USD or INR |

So three stores on Grow means three Grow subscriptions, three bills and three sets of app charges. Check Shopify’s pricing page for current plan prices.
Staff and users across stores
Each store has its own staff limit set by its plan: 0 on Starter and Basic, 5 on Grow, 15 on Advanced and unlimited on Plus. The store owner, organization owner, collaborators and POS-only staff don’t count toward it (Shopify Help Center).
In an organization, a user can be given access to specific stores. In Settings > Users, the user’s menu has Edit store access to change which stores they reach (Shopify Help Center). Shopify also offers roles for multi-store setups, such as Organization administrator, which covers almost all features across the organization and its stores, and Store user administrator, which manages users for specific stores (Shopify Help Center).
Our Shopify staff permissions guide covers which permissions to be careful with and how to offboard someone.
What Shopify Plus adds for multi-store teams
If you run many stores on Plus, the organization does more:
- Organization analytics. Aggregated metrics across all stores, including gross sales, sessions, orders, average order value and conversion rate by store, plus multi-store dashboard sections and reports you can split or filter by store (Shopify Help Center).
- Central billing, as above.
- Advanced security features for the organization: requiring a secure sign-in method for all users, SAML single sign-on, SCIM user management and a user activity log. These need a verified domain (Shopify Help Center).
Below Plus, none of these are available: you switch stores to see each one’s numbers, and two-step sign-in is enforced user by user.
What one account does not give you
Even with one login and one organization:
- No shared data. Each store has its own products, inventory, customers and orders. Shopify says expansion stores don’t share data by default, and an organization groups stores for users and billing, not for catalog or stock.
- No combined admin below Plus. Orders, reports and settings are viewed one store at a time.
- No shared changes. A price change or a new product has to be made in each store. See making changes across multiple Shopify stores.
- No shared staff limit. Each store’s plan sets its own user ceiling.
A setup that works for several stores
- Use one email for your own account on every store so the switcher lists them all.
- Group the stores you own into an organization if they share a billing currency, then review staff access straight away.
- Keep a store register: store, plan, billing currency, owner, apps billed, staff with access. It is the first thing you need when someone leaves or a bill looks wrong.
- Decide whether you need separate stores at all. If the stores are the same brand in different countries, Shopify Markets may cover it from one store.
- Plan the daily routine, not just the login. Our guide to managing multiple Shopify stores covers orders, stock and approvals across stores.
Common mistakes
- Different emails per store. The switcher then shows only some stores, and access reviews miss accounts.
- Assuming grouping merges billing. Below Plus, bills stay per store.
- Not reviewing access after grouping. Organization permissions are removed and billing permissions move, which can lock out the person who pays the bills.
- Forgetting app charges. They stay with each store, including after moves.
Working across stores day to day
One login solves signing in, not the work. Storefleet Store Ops installs on each store and links them to one workspace, with one order list across stores and a store switcher on every list inside Shopify admin. In the web dashboard, refunds, stock and discount changes from every store wait in one Approvals list; each change belongs to one store and is approved for that store, then read back from Shopify after writing. Roles can be limited by store and screen, and there is an audit log. Nothing is synced between stores automatically. Agencies can read more on our agencies page.
FAQ
Can I have two Shopify stores on one plan?
Not below Plus. Each store has its own plan and is billed separately, even inside an organization. Shopify Plus covers up to ten stores (one main and nine expansion stores) on one contract with one invoice.
Do I need a separate email for each Shopify store?
No. It is better to use the same email. The store switcher identifies your stores by email address, so stores on a different email won’t appear in your list.
Can I group stores that are owned by different people?
No. To group non-Plus stores into an organization, you must be the store owner of each one, and they must share a billing currency. Ownership can be transferred first if that is what you intend.
Is there a limit on how many stores I can own?
For non-Plus stores grouped into an organization, Shopify states there is no specific limit. On Plus, the contract covers up to ten stores; for more, Shopify asks you to contact Support.
Do multiple stores share customers and inventory?
No. Each store has separate products, inventory, customers and orders. Read how to manage inventory across multiple Shopify stores for ways to keep stock aligned.
